World Congress on Cancers of the Skin
From 03-06 September, the 15th World Congress on Cancers of the Skin took place at the EICC. The event attracted 1035 specialists from 62 different countries across the world to discuss breakthrough discoveries in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of all types of skin cancer.
In addition to experts from across the industry, there was also a public lecture delivered by TV presenter, author and Anglican priest, Rev Peter Jones. His lecture looked closely at the commonalities between religion and medicine, where he drew from his BBC television series Around the World in 80 Faiths.
One of the biggest events in the digital calendar, ScotSoft, took place at the EICC in October. This event is a celebration of innovation within the world of technology and brings together some of the industry's most respected figures, including Skyscanner CEO Gareth Williams and Angel Investor Sherry Coutu.
350 secondary school pupils and teachers from across the country also attended the event and were given the opportunity to talk to leading industry figures about the merits of a career in technology. Polly Purvis, Chief Executive of ScotlandIS, organisers of the event, says: "The schools debate invites them to ask the questions that really matter and meet other young people who share their interest in IT and technology. It also gives us the chance to tap into the energy and enthusiasm of the next generation and learn more about why they are interested in our industry."
