Welcome to the first Conference Call of 2016

It’s been a fantastic start to the year at the EICC.

At the beginning of April, we welcomed hundreds of superheroes, villains and time lords to Edinburgh’s annual Comic Con. Special guests from Marvel, DC Comics and television shows including Game of Thrones gathered at the convention alongside fans excited to meet their heroes and take part in the much-anticipated cosplay competition. You can read more and see some of the colourful characters in this issue’s Case Study.

As our Sales and Marketing Director, Amanda Wrathall, explains in Highlights at the EICC, our facilities can be used for conferences and events of all shapes and sizes. Amanda recounts her time at the EICC so far and tells us more about the sales team’s new focus for 2016.

An area that has also experienced a huge amount of change recently is Edinburgh’s financial services sector. An industry built on tradition and heritage is being transformed by a wealth of innovative fintech companies. Graeme Jones, Chief Executive of the Scottish Financial Enterprise, tells us more in this issue’s Cover Story.

Last but by no means least, we take a look at some of Edinburgh’s more obscure festivals. The capital is known for its arts festivals in August, but there are a number of lesser-known but equally exciting festivals taking place across the rest of the year.

We hope you enjoy this issue of Conference Call and please do get in touch if you have any feedback.
